4-Way Test Speech Contest Program Information
The 4-Way Speech Contest is a long-standing Rotary tradition that challenges young people to think deeply about ethics, character, and leadership in today’s world. Sponsored by Rotary clubs across the globe, this contest invites students to apply Rotary International’s Four-Way Test to real-life issues, encouraging thoughtful reflection on how our words and actions impact others.
The Four-Way Test asks four simple but powerful questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? Through this contest, students are not only developing public speaking and critical thinking skills, but also learning to evaluate complex situations through an ethical lens that promotes respect, honesty, and responsibility.
For the Medford Rogue Rotary Club, the 4-Way Speech Contest represents an investment in the next generation of leaders. By providing students with a platform to express their ideas, Rotary helps foster confidence, civic engagement, and a strong moral compass. Participants are encouraged to explore topics that matter to them—whether personal, academic, or community-based—and connect those ideas to values that transcend age, background, or circumstance.
The contest also strengthens connections between Rotary, local schools, educators, families, and the broader community. It serves as a reminder that ethical leadership begins early and that meaningful dialogue can inspire positive change. As students share their perspectives, they demonstrate how the Four-Way Test remains relevant in addressing modern challenges and guiding principled decision-making.
We are proud to support this program and celebrate the voices, creativity, and integrity of the students who participate. Their insights reflect the enduring values of Rotary and offer hope for a future guided by fairness, truth, and goodwill.
