Dec 3rd Meeting Updates -Dogs for Better Lives

This week our club heard from Dogs for Better Lives, the Southern Oregon based nonprofit founded in 1977 by Roy G. Kabat. Originally Dogs for the Deaf, the organization now trains Hearing Dogs, Autism Assistance Dogs, and Facility Dogs that dramatically improve independence, safety, and quality of life for the people they serve.

Key Takeaways

  • Life changing work at zero cost to clients thanks to donor support.
  • Dogs come from both rescue placements and purpose-bred programs to ensure the best match.
  • DBL provides in-home placement and lifetime support for every client and dog team.
  • Their process is rigorous, from training and screening to placement and long term follow up.
  • They urgently need puppy raisers, one of the most impactful ways volunteers can support their mission.
  • Additional involvement opportunities include volunteering, spreading the word, joining their e-newsletter, and following DBL on social media.
