Before You Go:

Boost Your Immune System

Eat well, stay hydrated and get enough sleep in the days leading up to your trip.

Pack Smart

Bring healthy snacks like nuts and fruit, a reusable water bottle, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and basic first aid kit.

Consider Vaccination Updates

Talk to your doctor, visit your pharmacy or county public health department for required or suggested vaccines for international travel.  An updated COVID vaccine is recommended. Please note most national pharmacy chains keep records on your prior vaccinations.

Adjust Your Sleep Schedule

For international travel, try to adjust your sleep schedule a day or two before your trip to help with jet lag.

During Your Trip:

Practice Good Hygiene

Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, especially after using public restrooms or touching surfaces in airports, planes and rest stops.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water throughout the day, particularly on flights where the air is dry.  Avoid alcohol during flights as it can add to jet lag.

Eat Healthy

Stick to a balanced diet and choose healthy snacks.

Prioritize Sleep

Aim for adequate sleep to help adjust to your new time zone.

Stay Active

Find ways to exercise during the flight, explore your destination on foot, use the hotel gym or take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Be Mindful of Food and Water

Drink bottled water, avoid ice in drinks and choose cooked or peeled foods over raw produce, especially in regions where water safety is a concern.

Protect Against the Elements

Use sunscreen and wear clothing appropriate for the season.

Protect Yourself from Insects

Use insect repellents.

Move During Long Periods of Sitting

On flights or long drives, get up and stretch or walk around to improve circulation and reduce blood clots.  As an additional measure to prevent blot clots consider taking low dose aspirin during travel.  Consult your health care provider for guidance.
