Annual Peanut Butter Project
Great turnout of volunteers on Tuesday, 12/12, to help with the packaging of food for our annual Peanut Butter Project. Fifteen Rotarians from our club and three significant others met at Kids Unlimited and filled just over 600 bags of food in under 2 hours. Additional volunteers assisted the day before to purchase the food. As a result of this effort, led by Chairperson Cheryl Harrison, every student at KU receives not only a jar of peanut butter but fresh fruit, granola bars, energy bars, etc.
This project began many years ago when Cheryl asked a visiting student from Kids Unlimited what they were hoping for for Christmas and the student answered “a jar of peanut butter”. Food insecurity while schools are not open is a very large issue in our area. Cheryl brought forth want is now an annual effort known as the Peanut Butter Project. This year the project was fully funded through the pickleball tournament earnings.
Another great fellowship opportunity for our club members for a great cause. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and special thanks to Cheryl for coordinating this effort again this year.
