April is Environmental month

We at Rotary are dedicated to promoting activities that enhance the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment. April is Environmental Month

Supporting the environment is Rotary’s seventh area of focus, alongside peace-building and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and community economic development.

Rotary is committed to initiatives that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment. We empower communities to access grants and other resources, embrace local solutions, and spur innovation to address the causes and mitigate the effects of climate change and environmental degradation.

The Rotary Foundation has allocated 18.4 million USD in global grant funding to environment-related causes over the past five years, supporting community economic development and water, sanitation, and hygiene projects.

Here are some ways we can address environmental challenges:

  • Protecting and restoring land, coastal, marine, and freshwater resources
  • Enhancing the capacity of communities to manage and conserve natural resources
  • Supporting sustainable agriculture, fishing, and aquaculture practices
  • Addressing the causes of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Strengthening ecosystems and communities affected by climate change
  • Supporting educational initiatives that promote environmentally protective behaviors
  • Advocating for sustainable consumption to build a more resource-efficient economy
  • Addressing environmental justice issues and public health concerns
