Club Meeting – The 911 call for a Caregiving Crisis

Caregiver Crisis & The Sandwich Generation: Finding Calm in the Chaos
Our speaker this week was Sudhir Gautam, founder of The Care Steward — an Ashland-based service guiding families through the often-overwhelming maze of eldercare decisions.
Sudhir’s talk hit home for many of us juggling careers, kids, and caregiving for aging parents — what he calls the “Sandwich Generation Juggling Act.” Drawing on years of service as a Long-Term Care Ombudsman, hospice volunteer at Celia’s House, and board member of Southern Oregon Friends of Hospice, he shared practical wisdom for anyone facing a care crisis.
Sudhir encouraged families to focus on the “Three P’s”:
-
People: Build your care team — know your key contacts and who to call when things change.
-
Paperwork: Get the essentials in place — advance directive, power of attorney, and will.
-
Plan: Create a “What If” plan that looks at your full circumstances — financial, medical, and emotional.
The Care Steward helps families move from panic to plan, turning caregiving from a crisis into a coordinated effort built on compassion and clarity.
